Vegan leather vs. animal leather
Share
We're often asked why our sneakers aren't made of leather. So here's a brief explanation. Animal leather requires a lot of resources: livestock farming, water, land, and greenhouse gas emissions. Tanning is a process that uses chemicals that pollute soil and water if it's not vegetable-based.
Our sneakers are made from grape waste from Italy: skins and seeds that would otherwise be thrown away; result: less energy, less impact, and zero animal material.
Animal leather ages well and is durable, but it scratches and stains easily. Furthermore, it isn't water-repellent without treatment. Our material, on the other hand, remains water-repellent without any special care, and for much longer! It's also more supple and easier to care for than animal leather! So, for children, our choice seemed obvious!
