We did a lot of research before venturing into children's sneakers.
We did not want to go barefoot because we now know the effects, confirmed by our various exchanges with podiatrists and children's shoe retailers we have met.
Barefoot shoes, meaning shoes that create a "barefoot" effect, are only suitable before a child learns to walk, not after. Numerous studies indicate that for a child to learn to walk properly, they should be "barefoot." This is true, but not once they have learned to walk! We'll explain why and what the potential dangers are:
-A very thin outsole that doesn't fully absorb impact is fine on a smooth surface, but on cobblestones, it's a different story! It requires more effort from the child and can cause discomfort and muscle pain, not to mention that the sole wears out faster! A child's foot needs a sole that is flexible enough to allow for natural muscle development but thick and durable enough to absorb impact.
-In children, the ankle is naturally unstable, the muscles are still developing, light support helps guide movement and limit excessive twisting, that's why we have a reinforced heel that supports the foot but with foam so that our sneakers are comfortable from the very first wear
The foot doesn't naturally function flat! Removing any heel elevation puts the Achilles tendon under constant tension and overloads the calves, which can cause pain in children. That's why our sneakers have a removable, molded insole with a slight incline, which improves posture.
As you will have understood, barefoot does not correct any foot, meaning that it can even accentuate certain imbalances.
Our sneakers fit a child's foot perfectly; they are neither "straitjacket" shoes nor radical "barefoot" shoes.
Children rarely complain of foot pain, so make the right choice !
